Scaddabush
Scaddabush in Italian slang means "a little bit of everything" - or so the website of Scaddabush tells me. I think it's a perfect sum of how the food is served here in Scaddabush. Funny enough, it also may be one of the best ways to eat, share, and be merry. A little bit off of my plate, a little bit off of yours, and a little bit extra to share across the table - isn't that lovely?
We were seated a the front of the shop, close to the doorway - but on this cold (and I mean COLD at minus 18 Celsius kind of night) there were surprising no draft coming in because of the door wary design. We were warmed by the slightly orange Edison lights, old bricks, and wooden chandeliers and furniture, it's the perfect evening backdrop leading up whatever you feel like tonight.
This actually started with a little promo coupon we obtained for a free naked mozzarella ball. Haha yes I was enticed by a free cheese ball (wouldn't you?). Made in House - fresh, and served with bread, salt, and salsa. It's a sexy little dish. It's a good appetizer, couples well with some beers or wine. it's a good start for a chat, to wet your pallet and tickles your appetite. The cheese ball is a bit bland and it swims in a well of smooth bed of olive oil in the plate. Cut with a butter knife and add a sprinkle of salt and spicy is really all you need. The bread is a nice compliment but not mandatory addition, it adds some crunch and is all a bit magical.
Tonight I decided to order one thing at a time instead of ordering all my dishes from the get-go, inspired by the "a little bit of everything" mind set, well also because past 9 pm there's more drink and eats specials so yas I was waiting for that too. We got a toscana kale salad as my second sharing dish. it's a gorgeous plate of tender kale leaves, with croutons, cheese, peppers, almonds and lovely lemon dressing. I was hesitant with a salad because I had a salad as lunch and really didn't want the same taste or texture for dinner. but this salad was not at all bland. Picturesque too: see for yourself.
So at this point I ran out of my pint of Peroni and decided on a one of the past 9pm drink specials, Aperol spritz. Another gorgeous item - and i was not disappointed. Among the specials there are also some of my favorite things like polenta fries, calamari, and mill street organic. For their full menu, visit the site: https://www.scaddabush.com/toronto-yonge-and-gerrard/
There you have it - all my favorite things in one night. The calamari fritti was also excellent - squid was tender and breading was light - with a bit of mustard and a bit spice dip, it goes wonderfully with my Aperol Spritz and some lovely conversation. This is truly, one of those perfect nights, that hours went by in a blink of an eye, under the warm candle light, watching people passing by the window in a light sprinkle snow night.
So? Ready for your own adventure of a little bit of everything tonight?
