Over Easy

Over the years, I have been trying a number of brunch places around town. While some have potato waffles and other promised the best egg bennys in town, I find I still go back to my favorite brunch shop more times than I can count: Over Easy.

I have been going there on and off for about.. 15 years. First it's just close to where i lived and close to the university. A bit fancier than most at the time, but not too over the top. Now it's just classic, nostalgic and triggers all the good feelings.

The restaurant menu is pretty extensive - mostly classic dishes but a wide range of choices. They have anything from simple eggs, salads, sandwiches, to more create things like "eggs in a hole" or "breakfast poutine". Depends on what you feel like, there's something on the menu for everyone. A few of my favorites or recommendations:

- Breakfast Burrito: Burrito for breakfast you say? Well it's a burrito wrapped with eggs scrambles, cheese, avocado, tomatoes, red onion, and bacon chunks. Served with home fries and hot pepper sauce. A burrito with all the awesome breakfast fixings and just enough vegetable and carbs for me.

- Huevos Rancheros: a classic Mexican dish. Hubby seems to really enjoy this one - so much so he orders is every. single. time. We have been to more authentic Mexican restaurants but apparently Over Easy has done some modification to it to make it even better. This dish has some hot tortilla, poached eggs, hot pepper/tomato sauce all over, and cheese melted on top. It also comes with home fries, avocado and sour cream. oh, another note, the plate is often piping hot!
Seems like we both like to get our Mexican spiciness fixes at breakfast right?

overeasy bar- Cobb salad: This one is not Mexican but so good for breakfast. Greens, avocado, tomato, bacon, chicken strips, blue cheese.. served with Blue cheese dressing i think? This is fantastic if i had an especially oily dinner the night before and feel like a "salad" but this tastes nothing like your boring salad. The bowl is often so packed and the bowl is huge. Come Hungry!

- Coffee: ok the coffee is so good it gets its own shout out. They provide bottomless coffee with a little round thermo pot if there's 2+ people in your party. It keeps your coffee hot and saves the servers time from having to run around back and forth refilling. Great idea, great coffee too.

Here's the website, with menu and other info. Oh also great location because easy commute is important, it's located centrally on major subway lines of St George and Bloor, and a short 2min walk after. http://www.overeasyrestaurants.com/

Lastly, and perhaps the most importantly, the people working there are awesome. In the summer time we brought our little dog to have breakfast on the patio and he gets a little bowl of water. In the winter time, the bar view is not even half bad and I get to see all the people working hard making cold espresso and mimosa. Everyone is attentive, everyone work so hard, and everyone has a big smile on. Fantastic joint, check if out if you are in the area.
